What does it really mean to “love your neighbor as yourself”?

Jesus called this the second greatest commandment. It means actively caring for other people’s needs and treating them with the same value, respect, and kindness we want for ourselves. This goes beyond feelings — it is practical love shown in actions, even toward strangers or enemies.

In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus showed that our “neighbor” is anyone in need, regardless of race, religion, or social status. This command challenges selfishness and calls Christians to be compassionate, generous, and forgiving. True neighborly love reflects God’s character and is a powerful witness to the world.
